Accommodations in Florence

There are many accommodations in Florence, some in the heart of the historic center, some farther away. A wide range of facilities, from low key, family run, to very expensive ones. The latter provide services comparable to what one could experience in the most expensive places in NA. And, of course, there are, as everywhere else, unscrupulous operators. Lots of choices. Here are two accommodations we stayed in Florence that we found to be reasonably priced based on their location and services. There are indeed others that may be just as good and reasonable.

The Bed and Breakfast is located on a quiet small street in the Oltrearno district of Florence, a few minutes from the Palazzo Pitti and Ponte Vecchio, but a pleasant longer walk through the historic center of Florence (about 1 mile or 1.5 km) to Piazza della Signoria. We loved the location, away from the hustle and bustle of tourists and did not mind the walk.
The furniture was basic, and could be considered dated by NorthAmerican standard, but the room we stayed in was quiet, large and clean, with a small clean refrigerator and safety box, and a private large washroom. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and loved the location among ordinary Florentines, plus having access to some quite amazing trattoria nearby. If you are looking for a reasonably priced B&B in Florence, mixing with locals, and are not looking for 5 stars NA accommodation or touristy place, this is a low budget B&B worth considering. Located in the heart of Florence, just a few minutes pleasant walk from Santa Croce (e.g. less than 100 meters), the Bargello Museum, and Piazza della Signoria, the De Benci Bed and Breakfast is in a great location to feel and explore the city. On the fourth floor of an historic building that goes back to 1300, the De Benci provides all the comforts that one may need to enjoy Florence.
The Bed & Breakfast is beautifully decorated with attention to and care of every detail. We had a spacious and elegant room with a large private bathroom. The main window overlooked Via De Benci and great renaissance wall mural paintings on opposite buildings. Piazza Santa Croce can be seen in the background. We stayed there in 2009, in 2010 and will stay again in 2011. Considering its elegance, spaciousness, location in central Florence and very reasonable rates, for us it ranks first among B&Bs in Florence. Check out our review on Trip Advisor.
